About our Department: The Inspection Department enforces building codes and issues building permits for the City of Huntsville. Our goal is to provide protection for the health, safety, and welfare of the general public in relation to the use and occupancy of structures by enforcement of adopted Building Codes and to protect the general public from abuse by unlicensed Contractors and sub-contractors by enforcement of Contractor Licensing Laws.
Building Inspector I Position Overview, Qualifications and Necessary Special Requirements: This is journey level building inspection work. Work involves conducting inspections of buildings in the course of construction, alterations, and repair to determine whether plans, quality of work, and materials conform with existing code requirements.
High school diploma from a school accredited by a regional accrediting agency recognized by the U.S. Department of Education or GED certificate issued by the appropriate state agency and experience in building construction or inspection work; or any combination of education, training and experience
Either Licensed as an Alabama Home Builder, an Alabama General Contractor, or Certified as a Building Inspector through International Code Council.
Valid driver's license and good driving record.
Building Inspector II Position Overview, Qualifications and Necessary Special Requirements: This is advanced level building inspection work in securing and maintaining compliance with building construction codes. Work involves leading, providing assistance and advice to building inspectors and in conducting the more difficult and complex inspections.
High school diploma from a school accredited by a regional accrediting agency recognized by the U.S. Department of Education or GED certificate issued by the appropriate state agency. Either Licensed as an Alabama Home Builder, an Alabama General Contractor, or Certified as a Building Inspector through International Code Council and a minimum of ten years of building construction experience is required; or any combination of education, training and experience that demonstrates ten years of construction experience.
Either Licensed as an Alabama Home Builder, an Alabama General Contractor, or Certified as a Building Inspector through International Code Council.
A minimum of ten years building construction trade experience is required.
Valid Driver's License and good driving record.
