Position Overview
City of Huntsville’s Inspection Department is hiring Building Inspector I & II positions to enforce building codes and issue building permits. The Inspector will conduct inspections of new construction, alterations, and repairs to ensure plans, quality of work, and materials meet applicable code requirements. Key Responsibilities
• Inspect buildings in the course of construction, alterations, and repair. • Determine compliance of plans, work quality, and materials with existing code requirements. • For Building Inspector II roles, lead, provide assistance and advice to other inspectors and conduct more complex inspections. Qualifications & Special Requirements
High school diploma from a regionally accredited school recognized by the U.S. Department of Education or GED certificate issued by the appropriate state agency. Licensed as an Alabama Home Builder, an Alabama General Contractor, or certified as a Building Inspector through the International Code Council. Valid driver’s license and good driving record. For Building Inspector I: Experience in building construction or inspection work, or any combination of education, training and experience that meets the high school requirement. For Building Inspector II: Minimum ten years of building construction experience (or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience). Benefits Summary
