About Our Department The Inspection Department enforces building codes and issues permits, ensuring compliance with adopted Building Codes and protecting the public from unlicensed contractors by enforcing Contractor Licensing Laws.
Building Inspector I Position Overview
– Journey level inspection work; conduct inspections of buildings during construction, alterations, and repair to determine compliance with plans, quality of work, and materials.
Qualifications & Requirements
High school diploma from an accredited institution or GED certificate plus experience in building construction or inspection work (any combination of education, training, and experience).
Licensed as an Alabama Home Builder, an Alabama General Contractor, or certified as a Building Inspector through the International Code Council.
Valid driver’s license and clean driving record.
Building Inspector II Position Overview
– Advanced level inspection work; lead and assist other inspectors, conduct complex inspections, and maintain compliance with building construction codes.
Qualifications & Requirements
High school diploma from an accredited institution or GED certificate.
Licensed as an Alabama Home Builder, an Alabama General Contractor, or certified as a Building Inspector through the International Code Council, combined with a minimum of ten years of building construction experience.
Valid driver’s license and clean driving record.
