The Manufacturing Maintenance Mechanic I is responsible for troubleshooting, repairing, maintaining, and optimizing plant production equipment in a fast-paced food manufacturing facility. This role requires strong mechanical and electrical repair skills, adherence to safety protocols, and the ability to work collaboratively within a unionized production environment.
Key Responsibilities Safety, Compliance & Documentation
Adhere to all company safety policies, procedures, GMP, and Global Food Safety standards
Follow Lockout/Tagout procedures at all times
Maintain clean, safe, and well-organized work areas
Complete work orders, maintenance logs, and reports accurately
Mechanical, Electrical, & Technical Duties
Diagnose mechanical, pneumatic, hydraulic, and electrical equipment issues
Inspect, test, and repair equipment including conveyors, compressors, chillers, programmable controllers, and robots
Read and interpret schematics, blueprints, repair manuals, and part catalogs
Dismantle and reassemble equipment to replace or repair defective components
Perform Preventive Maintenance (PM) as scheduled
Determine necessary maintenance type and timing based on production needs
Conduct rebuilds, fabrication, and repair of equipment
Perform welding (mild and stainless steel)
Operational Support
Respond promptly to maintenance requests
Maintain plant equipment to ensure maximum uptime and efficiency
Identify, recommend, and implement operational improvements
Work with vendors/contractors for parts and service needs
Maintain spare parts inventory and organization
Train other employees on safe and efficient equipment operation
Minimum Qualifications
2+ years experience in manufacturing or production maintenance
Experience in mechanical and/or electrical repair
Knowledge of fabrication, machine shop tools, hydraulics, and pneumatics
Ability to read and follow electrical diagrams, schematics, and blueprints
Capable of lifting up to 50 lbs, frequent bending, stooping, twisting, and turning
Strong manual dexterity, coordination, and balance
Commitment to safety and teamwork
Pride in workmanship and attention to detail
Preferred: LME (Limited Maintenance Electrical) License
