Mechanical Engineer – Buildings

Role Overview As part of the Buildings Group for Garver, the Mechanical Engineer will develop mechanical designs supporting a variety of Buildings Design Business Line projects. Responsibilities include leading the planning, design, and commissioning of:
Building HVAC systems
Building plumbing systems
Building fire protection systems
Whole‑building energy modeling
Building sustainability reporting
Additional duties involve coordination with other support disciplines, regional offices, and assisting project managers in project management, following quality assurance and control plans. Periodic travel to project sites is required.
Abilities & Attributes
Knowledge of mechanical engineering and sustainability principles
Mentor and train technical staff
Interface with clients on project design, delivery, and construction
Manage project budget and schedule compliance
Oversee mechanical design throughout the project lifecycle from conceptual through construction phases
Utilize BIM design software to produce construction drawings
Use Microsoft Excel‑based calculation tools for design calculations
Manage multiple assignments concurrently
Ensure time management and product quality
Follow quality assurance and control plans
Maintain continuing education and learning based on project needs
Requirements
Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering or architectural engineering with a mechanical focus from an ABET accredited university or college
Passed the Fundamentals of Engineering exam
5‑10 years of building design and construction industry experience
Strong knowledge base of mechanical engineering principals related to building mechanical designs
Proven experience overseeing mechanical designs, including detailed plans and specifications for building projects
Technically competent in building mechanical systems including HVAC, plumbing, and fire protection systems
Strong communication skills
Experience with Autodesk Revit
Proficient with MS Office Suite
Preferred Skills
Licensed Professional Engineer
Experience with AIA MasterSpec
Knowledge of Federal Agencies design criteria
