Job Summary The Senior Mechanical Engineer will provide technical leadership and engineering expertise in the design, development, and optimization of high-speed manufacturing equipment used in the production of absorbent hygiene products. The engineer will drive equipment reliability, efficiency, and continuous improvement initiatives, ensuring manufacturing systems meet performance, safety, quality, and regulatory standards.
Key Responsibilities
Design and Development
– Lead the design, modification, testing, and optimization of high-speed mechanical systems, assemblies, and components to improve equipment performance, throughput, cost, safety, and quality.
Standards and Documentation
– Develop and maintain mechanical design standards, engineering documentation, and preventative maintenance strategies.
Cross‑Functional Collaboration
– Partner with product design, business support, operations, quality, and reliability teams to ensure equipment design supports product requirements and manufacturability.
Capital Projects and Continuous Improvement
– Lead or support capital projects, including equipment upgrades, new machine installations, and integration of advanced technologies. Drive continuous improvement initiatives using Lean, Six Sigma, and other problem‑solving methodologies.
Vendor and Contractor Management
– Collaborate with external vendors, service contractors, fabricators of machine parts, and OEMs to evaluate and implement innovative mechanical solutions for small and large equipment upgrades and installations.
Support and Training
– Provide support, training, and documentation to plant reliability and operations teams regarding the setup, operation, and maintenance of new equipment.
Troubleshooting and Root Cause Analysis
– Provide technical expertise to troubleshoot and resolve complex mechanical issues, supporting root cause analysis and corrective actions for recurring mechanical failures and process deviations.
Required Qualifications
Bachelor of Science degree or higher in Mechanical Engineering.
Minimum of 5 years’ experience as a Mechanical Engineer in a high‑speed, high‑volume manufacturing environment, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Expertise in mechanical design, machine dynamics, motion systems, vibration analysis, and rotating equipment.
Strong background in pneumatics, hydraulics, gear trains, servo systems, and web handling.
Hands‑on experience with high‑speed precision converting equipment (cutting, bonding, folding, and material feeding systems).
Excellent problem‑solving skills and ability to diagnose and solve complex mechanical problems.
Proficiency with CAD software (SolidWorks and AutoCAD) and engineering analysis tools.
Proven track record in leading capital projects and implementing process improvements in manufacturing environments.
Knowledge of Lean Six Sigma, statistical analysis, and process optimization techniques.
Knowledge of quality systems standards (e.g. ISO or GMP standards).
Proficient with project management and Microsoft Office software.
Preferred Qualifications
Minimum 8 years’ experience in a high‑speed, high‑volume manufacturing environment, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Experience in the absorbent hygiene, paper, packaging, or converting industry.
Experience integrating automation, robotics, and advanced sensor technologies into high‑speed equipment.
Experience working in GMP, ISO, or FDA‑regulated manufacturing environments.
Six Sigma Green Belt or higher training or certification.
