Job Summary The Louisiana Department of Insurance is seeking a motivated and detail-oriented

Insurance Specialist 1/2/3

to join the Office of Licensing/Producer Licensing Division. This division plays a key role in ensuring insurance producers and related professionals are properly licensed and meet Louisiana’s regulatory requirements. In this position, you’ll review licensing applications and supporting documentation, help ensure compliance with state insurance laws, and assist in responding to licensing-related questions from producers and the public. Experience Requirements

Three years of experience in insurance, administrative services, investigations, or law enforcement; OR

Six years of full-time work experience in any field; OR

A bachelor's degree.

Experience Substitution:

Every 30 semester hours earned from an accredited college or university will be credited as one year of experience towards the six years of full-time work experience in any field. The maximum substitution allowed is 120 semester hours which substitutes for a maximum of four years of experience in any field.

Job Duties

Answer questions by phone and email from insurance producers, applicants, and the public about licensing requirements, exams, appointments, and insurance regulations.

Review insurance licensing applications and related documents to make sure information is complete, accurate, and meets state rules.

Research insurance laws and department guidelines to help respond to questions or resolve licensing‑related issues.

Compare applications and filings to identify missing information or inconsistencies and determine next steps, such as approval or requesting corrections.

Prepare clear, professional written communication explaining requirements, decisions, or needed follow‑up.

Keep electronic and paper records organized while handling sensitive information with care and confidentiality.

Provide helpful customer service by explaining processes, guiding applicants through next steps, or directing them to the right resources.

Assist with basic research or review tasks related to insurance licensing and regulatory compliance.

Participate in training to build knowledge of Louisiana insurance laws and grow in the role.

Perform other related duties and special projects as assigned.
