Primary Purpose Of Organizational Unit The UNC School of Law aspires to be a great public law school, pursuing a fourfold mission: preparing outstanding lawyers and leaders; conducting significant research and scholarship; instilling lifelong ethical values and pro‑bono commitment; and serving the legal profession, people, and institutions of North Carolina, the nation, and the world.

Position Summary The Director reports to the Assistant Dean for Student Development and collaborates across units (Student Development, Career Development, Academic Success, Academic Dean, Embedded Counselor) to triage and case‑manage students throughout law school, bar passage, and licensure. The Director:

Supports students and graduates from admission to bar passage, ensuring time management, organization, calendaring, financial planning, and other skills beyond substantive instruction.

Familiarizes themselves with bar exam formats (UBE, NextGen), application processes, deadlines, and scoring, guiding students through the entire process.

Collects, analyzes, and reports data on student progress, bar passage rates, advising outcomes, and wellness engagement.

Conducts progress and exit interviews for all UNC School of Law students.

May support teaching the Applied Legal Concepts Course and/or bar prep workshops.

Minimum Education And Experience Requirements

Relevant post‑Baccalaureate degree required (or foreign degree equivalent).

For candidates with comparable independent educational or instructional activities in student support functions, a relevant Bachelor’s degree (or foreign equivalent) and at least 1 year of relevant experience are acceptable.

Required Qualifications, Competencies, And Experience

JD degree from an ABA accredited law school.

Strong written and verbal communication skills.

High level of organization, flexibility, sound judgment, and interpersonal skills.

Large group and small group presentation ability.

Ability to maintain confidentiality pursuant to FERPA and other regulations.

Preferred Qualifications, Competencies, And Experience

2+ years’ experience in legal academic support (student advising, bar prep, career advising).

Teaching or experience with student advising related to academic issues.

Legal practice experience.

Ability to conduct basic statistical analysis.
