Job Overview Under the supervision of the Director of Information Technology, the Information Technology Support Specialist performs technical work in the support, installation, and maintenance of computer systems, networks, and related technology for all City departments.

They resolve complex issues, provide project support, and assist with system and network administration tasks while continuing to provide direct support to end‑users.

Essential Functions

Provide technical support, troubleshooting, and resolution for hardware, software, and network issues for all City departments.

Escalate advanced issues to third‑party support as needed.

Assist with, and in some cases perform, administration of servers and network equipment, coordinating with third‑party support as needed.

Install, configure, and maintain computers, network equipment, cameras, access control equipment, mobile devices, phones, and related peripherals and cabling.

Provide training and technical guidance to City employees on systems, applications, and mobile devices.

Manage user accounts and permissions on all systems, including Active Directory, Office 365, and other enterprise applications.

Help maintain Citywide workstation and hardware security, including patches, updates, and incident mitigation.

Participate in data security, backup, and disaster recovery procedures.

Support the wide‑area network connections between City departments.

Coordinate support with external vendors as needed.

Document technical procedures, system changes, and user support resolutions.

Provide input, technical support, and implementation assistance for IT projects under the direction of the Director of Information Technology.

On‑call support to the City’s Electric Utility SCADA and ISP network.

Business support of operational systems as needed.

After‑hours live‑streaming support of commission meetings.

Marginal Functions

Assist all departments as the need arises.

Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

Three to five years of progressively responsible IT support experience.

Prior experience with network/server administration and end‑user support strongly preferred.

Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or a related field a plus. Equivalent experience and certifications will be considered.

Valid Driver’s License required.

Technical Skills

Proficiency with Microsoft Windows operating systems, Office 365, and Active Directory.

Working knowledge of servers, networks (LAN/WAN), firewalls, and VPNs.

Familiarity with virtualization, backup systems, and endpoint security.

Ability to troubleshoot and resolve hardware, software, and networking issues independently.

Strong organizational, problem‑solving, and communication skills.

Decision Making & Problem Solving

Frequent problem‑solving required to address system malfunctions, network disruptions, and user needs.

Makes independent decision.
