Job Overview Neurology Technologist assist physicians with EMG's, perform EEG's, Evoked Potential Studies and Transcranial Doppler Studies for both inpatients and outpatients. The EEG technician has intimate knowledge of functional neuroanatomy and neurophysiology. Principles of mathematics and electronics are applied to provide accurate recordings, record duration of waveforms, and compute voltage and frequency waveforms.
Qualifications Required:
High School Diploma or GED
Graduate of a formal training program for neurodiagnostic testing
As of 2004, Electroneurodiagnostic Techs coming into the field are required to possess a Bachelor's Degree
One to two years of experience performing EMGs
Preferred:
Certification or Registration

Essential Functions
Verifies physician order prior to administering test procedure
Obtains pertinent information as to patient status to assist neurologist interpretation and feasibility of study
Prepares and instructs patients on procedure
Performs procedure according to policy
Follows proper electrode placement and removal process to obtain high-quality neuro-diagnostic data
Expresses thorough understanding of EEG and related equipment
Complies with infection control policies
Provides accurate monthly statistics to dept. director
Maintains procedure log for statistical purposes
Monitors equipment for appropriate functions, reports malfunctions to department director and clinical engineering in a timely manner
Demonstrates a caring attitude towards patients, co-workers and related ancillary staff
Preserves patient dignity, privacy and confidentiality
Maintains documents, competencies, and annual mandatories
Maintains licensure/certification if applicable
Appropriately prioritizes tasks
Complies with departmental and organizational procedures and standards such as: Employee Health, Attendance, Dress Code, and Safety
Demonstrates sensitivity and respect for age, gender and cultural differences
Demonstrates knowledge of age-appropriate needs
Restores patient to a comfortable state of cleanliness after testing
Insures adequate supply of linen and other supplies
Processes patient charges
Performs other related duties as assigned
