Position Overview Industrial Metal Supply, founded in 1948, is a leading metals distributor with seven locations serving California and Arizona. The HR Generalist/Business Partner will play a vital role in managing and executing HR functions related to associate relations, recruitment, compliance, and HR administration within our metal production environment. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of HR best practices, Federal, State and City labor laws, excellent communication skills, and experience working in a manufacturing, retail, fulfillment, or industrial setting.

Responsibilities

Associate Relations

Support and assist the HR Department and Sr Director, HR Business Partner (HRBP) for associate inquiries, concerns, and grievances, maintaining confidentiality and professionalism.

Facilitate conflict resolution and improve workplace dynamics through effective communication and mediation.

Performance Management

Assist in the development and implementation of performance management systems and processes.

Support supervisors in the performance appraisal process and ensure timely completion of evaluations.

Data Management and Reporting

Maintain accurate HR metrics and reports for time management.

Enter associate changes (position and rate) into the HRIS system.

Ensure data integrity for associate information in the HRIS system.

Leave of Absences

Manage the full lifecycle of leave of absence requests, including receipt, review, approval, and communication to associates and management.

Evaluate and ensure compliance with FMLA, ADA, and other state and federal leave laws.

Collaborate with associates, managers, and medical professionals to facilitate smooth transitions before, during, and after leaves.

Maintain confidential records and documentation related to leave requests, approvals, and associate communication.

Conduct assessments of leave requests and determine eligibility in accordance with company policy and relevant laws.

Provide guidance and support to associates regarding leave policies, benefits, and options available to them.

Develop and maintain leave policies and procedures that align with current regulations and best practices.

Create and analyze reports on leave utilization trends, compliance, and costs to present to HR leadership.

Train and educate managers and staff on leave policies, ensuring clear understanding and adherence.

Onboarding/Offboarding

Support the Onboarding process as it relates to HRIS/Payroll data entry and general Onboarding.

Assist in the development of job descriptions and specifications.

Manage the entire offboarding process for associates, including resignation, termination, and retirement.

Schedule exit interviews and prepare relevant documentation for voluntary separated associates.

Ensure the accurate processing of offboarding paperwork and employment termination forms.

Conduct exit interviews to gather feedback on associate experiences and reasons for leaving.

Analyze exit interview data to identify trends and areas for improvement within the organization.

Provide clear communication to departing associates regarding their final pay, benefits, and any necessary policies or procedures related to their exit.

Address any concerns or questions from associates regarding their offboarding process.

Project Work

Lead and support projects as needed.

Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field.

At least 5 years of experience in Human Resources, preferably in a manufacturing, fulfillment, retail, production, or the metal industry setting.

Proven experience supporting and building people processes (at times from scratch).

Experience coaching and directing managers/supervisors as it relates to labor laws and performance managing associates.

Startup experience is a plus!

Knowledge of labor laws nationally and in California (plus), regulations, and best practices.

Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to work effectively with diverse teams.

Proficient in HRIS (Human Resources Information Systems) and MS Office Suite.

Demonstrated ability to handle sensitive information with confidentiality.

Spanish bilingual speaking is a plus.
