Summary Coordinates all aspects of patient registration, insurance verification, and scheduling of patients accurately. Conducts patient interviews by phone and in‑person for the purpose of establishing an account by gathering demographic, insurance and clinical information to ensure appropriate patient scheduling and optimal financial clearance. Educates patients regarding financial responsibilities and collects out‑of‑pocket fees.

Job Duties

Interview patients using open‑ended questions to obtain pertinent demographic, insurance, and other information.

Engage patients throughout the registration process to create a welcoming and positive patient experience, whether in person or via phone.

Ensure referring providers' orders are complete and match the appointment scheduled. Obtain a new order prior to test or treatment if the order is incomplete or inaccurate.

Scan insurance cards, scripts, patient identification, and all pertinent documentation, including regulatory forms, accurately.

Secure signatures to ensure timely reimbursement, including consents specific to services rendered.

Determine and collect patient financial liability, create estimates when applicable, and refer patients to financial resources as needed for assistance with financial counseling.

Review daily schedules, identify potential scheduling conflicts affecting department flow, and confer with colleagues and providers to resolve them.

Maintain compliance with registration accuracy.

Minimum Qualifications

High school diploma or GED.

1 year of customer‑service or healthcare experience in a hospital and/or physician office.

Proficiency with computers and typing.

Ability to interact with a diverse customer base, including those seeking emergency services or treatment due to an accident or illness.

Successfully pass required training within two attempts.

Preferred Qualifications

Associate’s degree in health care or related field.

Knowledge of medical terminology.

Bi‑lingual in Spanish and English.

American Heart Association Basic Life Support certification (State of Pennsylvania).

Physical Demands Lift and carry up to 7 lbs.; continuous sitting >67%; frequent keyboard use; repetitive motion; frequent fine motor activity and wrist position deviation.
