Data Center Optical Engineer
We are seeking a skilled Data Center Optical Engineer to support critical data center operations. This role requires hands‑on experience with optical transport, racking and stacking, cabling, break‑fix support, and remote hands services. The ideal candidate is self‑motivated, customer‑focused, and comfortable working in fast‑paced, mission‑critical environments.
Key Responsibilities
Perform break‑fix, remote hands, and on‑call support (including nights/weekends as needed)
Rack, stack, install, and decommission servers, routers, switches, and transport equipment
Install, route, label, and troubleshoot Ethernet and fiber cabling (CAT5/6, SM/MM fiber)
Test and troubleshoot 10G–100G circuits using OTDR, power meters, BERT, RFC2544, Y.1564, iPerf
Support optical, IP, and transport network environments
Perform hardware replacement and card‑level troubleshooting
Work with AC/DC power systems, redundant feeds, and ATS
Follow MOPs, engineering documents, and safety standards
Perform site audits, documentation, and third‑party oversight as needed
Qualifications
3–5 years of data center or network operations experience
Strong knowledge of optical, IP, and transport networks
Experience with racking/stacking, cabling, and break‑fix support
Ability to work independently and communicate effectively with customers
Team lead experience preferred
Physical Requirements
Ability to lift up to 50 lbs
Comfortable working at heights, in confined spaces, and variable environments
