This role provides detailed cost data, supports decision-making for service-line profitability, ensures compliance with regulatory requirements, and contributes to strategic planning initiatives in a complex healthcare and academic environment. Responsibilities include maintaining cost allocation tables and MCA procedural weight tables, performing audits of the cost data, completion of monthly database updates in a timely manner and ensuring the integrity of the data passed through Syntellis Cost Center Accounting (CCA) from the Financial system (Epic).# **MAJOR JOB FUNCTIONS:**The following is a summary of the major essential functions of the job.
The incumbent may perform other duties, both major and minor, that are not mentioned below; and specific functions may change from time to time.* Conduct detailed cost analyses for hospital departments, clinical service lines, educational programs, and research operations* Guide cost analysis by providing trends and forecasts; explaining processes and techniques; recommending actions* Analyze data provided in reports for accuracy and make suggestions for cost and operational improvements* Develop and maintain cost allocation models (e.g., RVU-based allocations, activity-based costing, patient-level cost models)* Prepare variance analyses comparing actuals vs. budgets or projections* Provide recommendations to improve margins, reduce costs, or optimize utilization* Lead and participate in cross-functional financial and operational projects* Support annual budgeting and multi-year forecasting* Provide cost assumptions, workload projections, and scenario analyses for project planning* Assist with pro forma development for new and expansion of clinical programs, capital investments, and strategic projects* Ensure cost methodologies comply with Medicare cost report* Support financial and grant compliance for academic and research projects (e.g., Uniform Guidance)* Provide documentation for audits and internal reviews* Query, extract, and analyze large datasets to support projects and decision-making* Identify opportunities to improve data flows or automate project-related reporting processes* Build and create reports to support data needs upon request of external partners* Present findings in clear, actionable formats* Facilitate meetings, prepare project updates, and track action items* Other duties as assigned**MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:**The following qualifications, or equivalent, are the minimum requirements necessary to perform the essential functions of this job:**EDUCATION AND FORMAL TRAINING:*** Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Healthcare Administration, or related field required* Master’s degree or CPA/CMA preferred**WORK EXPERIENCE:*** 5 years in healthcare finance including cost accounting, financial analysis, and project-focused roles required* Experience working on financial or operational projects in healthcare or academia preferred**KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:*** Strong financial modeling and analytical skills* Advanced Excel: experience with SQL, Power BI, or Tableau preferred* Understanding of healthcare reimbursement, cost allocation methods, and grant/accounting rules* Ability to manage multiple projects, deadlines, and cross-functional stakeholders* Exceptional communication and presentation skills**PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:*** Mostly sedentary work.* Long periods of working on a computer.* Requires work under stressful conditions, deadlines, and/or irregular hours.* Must possess auditory and visual acuity to accurately perform job functions.**Required Licenses and Certifications**Cape Fear Valley Health System is an Equal Opportunity Employer M/F/Disability/Veteran/Sexual Orientation/Gender IdentityFor exceptional healthcare come to Cape Fear Valley Health where caring employees are committed to integrity, patient-centeredness and excellence throughout the entire healthcare process.
