Job Summary We are seeking a skilled and team‑oriented applicant for the Program Specialist 2 – Area Health Education Center (AHEC) – Project. This position, funded through 06/30/2027, will use knowledge and experience specific to the AHEC program to interpret and apply AHEC rules and regulations. The Program Specialist will act as a liaison, providing consultation to program participants and outside entities regarding program functions. The role will interpret, review, and apply program‑specific policies and procedures, access program needs, and develop actions to carry out program activities. Under general supervision, the Program Specialist oversees day‑to‑day program operations, resolves problems, and develops plans for program activities, coordinating components related to AHEC. The position reports to and works closely with the Director.
Responsibilities
Provide information and technical assistance to program participants, staff, and outside agencies regarding program content, policies, and activities, and recommend alternative courses of action.
Promote the program with outside organizations and resources.
Attend meetings and/or conferences as the program representative; develop and make public presentations on programs such as AHEC Scholars.
Contribute to the development and maintenance of a website related to health careers, scholarships, and educational resources.
Meet regularly with outside entities regarding the implementation of program policies; participate in establishing program standards and identifying areas for program development.
Monitor program activities in relation to program goals.
Prepare promotional materials and provide certifications to program participants, including AHEC Scholars.
Direct work and/or coordinate services of program volunteers.
Contribute to budget review and monitor expenditures.
Support faculty and contractual personnel with travel arrangements.
Update and create new content for the program website, including creating form submissions for programs and events.
Create and distribute program surveys.
Contribute to the development of a strategic plan.
Ensure timely and accurate reports required for the grant.
Compile assessment data collected for various reports.
Required Qualifications
High school diploma or equivalent.
At least one (1) year of full‑time work experience assisting in program execution.
Valid Washington State Driver’s License and private automotive insurance (prior to hire).
Experience working with students in K‑12 grades.
Experience working with community‑based organizations and industry partners.
Excellent customer service skills and the ability to build and maintain good working relationships with outside organizations.
Strong computer skills using a variety of applications (Word, Excel, data systems, PowerPoint, etc.).
Demonstrated ability to apply a responsive and flexible approach that is supportive of the needs, including universal access of our students, faculty, staff and the public.
Preferred Qualifications
Two (2) or more years of college coursework, and/or a Bachelor’s degree.
Experience with student recruitment or other types of student outreach activities.
Experience with data collection, compiling data, preparing and disseminating reports.
Conditions of Employment This position may involve receipt of, or accountability for, university funds or other items of value, and unsupervised access with developmentally disabled, vulnerable adults or children under the age of 16. Offer of employment is contingent upon successful completion and passing of a background check prior to beginning employment. Applicants must be authorized to work in the U.S.; sponsorship is not available for this position at this time. All new employees must comply with EWU Immunization Policy 602‑02 and provide proof of immunity or vaccination for MMR before beginning work. Salary and Benefits Salary for this position ranges from $45,912 (minimum) to $52,896. The starting salary within this range depends on qualifications, education, experience, and skills. In addition to salary, EWU offers a comprehensive benefits package including health insurance, disability insurance, retirement, generous vacation and sick leave accruals, 12 paid holidays, tuition waiver for employees and eligible family members, discounted sports tickets, access to campus workout facilities, and free STA bus transportation.
