Forklift Operator (Warehouse Assist. II) – 2nd Shift Company:

Starting rate:

$20.50 per hour

Job Summary:

Assists with warehouse operations by loading and receiving cargo, operating forklifts, and ensuring cargo is handled safely and efficiently on the 2nd shift.

Qualifications

Required:

One (1) year of recent hands‑on warehouse experience.

Required:

One (1) year operating a forklift at OSHA standards.

Required:

Working knowledge of warehouse operations for loading and receiving cargo.

Required:

Organizational and time‑management skills.

Required:

Ability to read, write and speak English and accurately process alphanumeric information.

Required:

Flexible schedule, including extended hours, holidays and weekends.

Required:

Work independently with limited supervision and strong initiative.

Required:

Strong interpersonal skills to coordinate with customers, vendors and coworkers.

Required:

Logical thinking, following procedures and making sound decisions.

Preferred:

Prior experience loading and receiving containerized cargo for ocean transportation.

Duties and Responsibilities

Primary Responsibilities:

Operate forklift to receive and load cargo from staging areas and containers.

Ensure cargo is placed in correct area for port destination and loaded in appropriate containers.

Cross‑reference cargo identification with sailing schedule.

Report inconsistencies and problems to supervisor.

Convey materials from receiving areas to storage or other designated areas.

Gather work assignments and determine tool requirements.

Inspect shipments upon arrival and report any damages or spoiled cargo.

Open boxes, remove strapping and waste disposal safely.

Use protective materials and secure loads for final shipment.

Handle and pile drums or supplies to port or departments.

Enter data on hand‑held computer.

Compile bill of lading and dock receipts.

Maintain situational awareness to avoid collisions.

Maintain a clean work area free of debris and hazards.

Secondary Responsibilities:

Maintain forklift – change propane, oil, water; report mechanical issues.

Guide junior staff in proper execution of duties.

Remove and store empty skids or pallets.

Physical Requirements

Must be capable of sitting, grasping, eye‑hand coordination.

Frequent standing, walking, twisting, reaching, repetitive arm motions.

Talk and hear consistently.

Occasional climbing, bending, squatting, overhead reach.

Carry up to 50 pounds routinely; lift up to 75 pounds occasionally.

Specific vision abilities: close, distance, color, peripheral, depth perception.

May require DOT screening or physical tests.

Safety & Conditions

Report hazards, incidents, and wear PPE as instructed.

Comply with all safety policies, refuse unsafe tasks, participate in training.

Environmental exposures: extreme heat, rain, wind, high humidity, dust, fumes, chemicals, moderate to high noise.
