Join the WARF finance & accounting team and help ensure accurate financial information while supporting strategic initiatives that advance scientific research at UW‑Madison to make a difference worldwide. As part of our mission‑driven organization, you will play a key role in analyzing accounting and operational data, reconciling accounts, and preparing reports. In this role, you’ll be empowered and accountable to:
Prepare the payments of shared royalties to inventors, UW‑Madison laboratories and departments, and other institutions; review and analyze license agreements to verify accurate receipts from licensees and payments of shared royalties.
Maintain accounting files for general ledger entries, check registers, bank statements and invoice batches; analyze records for financial close and the annual audit.
Process and reconcile bank accounts and journal entries; prepare and review receipt batches and deposits.
Process, reconcile, and review the investment portfolio, including quarterly and annual fee calculations, annual adjustments, reports, and analytics, including for the annual audit.
Review and analyze procedures and provide recommendations for improvements to accounting and reporting processes; update internal control documentation as needed.
Communicate openly with staff to foster an efficient and collaborative work environment.
You’ll be off to a great start if you demonstrate:
Strong knowledge of accounting principles (assets vs. liabilities, debits/credits, expense vs. revenue, etc.) and accounting systems.
Analytical and reporting skills, including understanding financial statements and budgets.
Teamwork through effective communication and trust‑building across identities of key partners.
Innovation by solving problems creatively and integrating diverse perspectives.
Accountability to follow through on commitments, strong organizational skills, and ability to manage sensitive and financial information with confidentiality.
Bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance, or equivalent education and experience.
You’ll be recognized and compensated:
Competitive pay, starting at $62,000.
