Position Description Harris County Universal Services (Universal Services) is transforming the way the County does business and seeking a Automotive Technician III to join our team. Universal Services is the enterprise IT solutions center for the departments and offices of Harris County, providing Information Technology, Public Safety and Justice Technologies, 311 Constituent Engagement Services, Fleet Services, and Records and Information Governance Services.
Harris County is the third largest and most diverse county in the nation, with a population of more than 4.7 million. Harris County Commissioners Court, the County’s governing body, directs a budget of more than $4 billion providing essential services including flood control, infrastructure, healthcare, housing, and justice administration.

Position Overview Under general supervision, the Automotive Technician is responsible for performing vehicle repair and maintenance to county-owned vehicles and equipment, as assigned in accordance with Harris County Fleet Services and OEM standards. Service Technicians must take pride in their work and enjoy being part of a winning team that cares about customers and each other. Harris County Fleet Services is growing and looking for Quality Automotive Service Technicians, to work on our Team!
Job Duties
Perform required Vehicle Maintenance and thorough inspection of all Vehicle Systems, including Engine, Brakes, Steering, Suspension, A/C, and Electrical
Diagnose, troubleshoot, and perform high quality and efficient repairs with a "fix it right the first time" approach
Perform Quality Control Inspections on Vendor repaired Vehicles to ensure repairs are completed
Create Estimates and communicate directly and effectively with Service Coordinators and Parts Department
Use OEM scan tools and Fleet software.
Help at various shops based on workload.
Must be able to work in hot and cold conditions and in tight places
Must be able to lift and/or move 50lbs.
Must help Maintain excellent customer satisfaction.
Perform any additional task assigned by management.

Education
High school diploma or GED equivalent from an accredited educational institution.
Experience
Minimum of 1 year Dealership or Automotive Shop Repair Experience with a positive and flexible attitude. Automotive Technology education may be considered for experience.
Licensure
Must maintain a valid Texas Driver’s License at all times.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Must have the ability to work well with others in a diverse and high-volume environment.
Must have excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Must possess strong organizational skills.
Must move with a purpose in a high-volume environment.
Must have the ability to work independently on assigned tasks as well as to accept direction on given assignments.
Must maintain a professional appearance and manner.
Must maintain a clean workspace.
Adhere to all County policies, procedures and safety standards.
