Assist in performing daily, periodic, and annual inspections of locomotive in accordance with FRA regulations.
Inspect equipment components for compliance with FRA.
Diagnoses malfunctions in diesel engines, air equipment, trucks, or other components to determine nature of problem and needed repair or replacement.
Perform emergency repairs to locomotives.
Replaces locomotive and diesel engine components including, but not limited to wheels or trucks, traction motors, sprints, couplers, draft gear assembly, gear cases, cylinder heads, air compressor, and turbo chargers.
Perform daily service of locomotive units: sands, waters, lubricates, and oils; wipe down and cleans unit and windows.
Operate electrical and gas welding equipment to join a variety of metals and alloys; operate acetylene torches for cutting and/or shaping metal parts such as aluminum, cast iron, steel.
Comply with company safety policies and procedures; must wear required personal protective equipment.
Handle environmental issues in appropriate manner (e.g. proper disposal of filter oil, diesel fuel or other materials.
Help maintain written and computer records for maintenance and repairs as required.
Other duties as assigned.
Must be able to operate cutting torch and electrical welder.
Knowledge of the safe operation of the equipment used.
Must be able to utilize a computer for parts ordering, troubleshooting, emails, and files
Experience in diesel mechanics highly preferred.
Electrical background high preferred
Must have valid Driver's License
High school education or GED
Work outside in environmental conditions which at times include extreme heat and extreme cold; inside with poor ventilation.
Be able to lift and carry 100 pounds.
Stand 4-8 hours per day.
Climb stairs and ladders.
Support oneself on a ladder.
This position includes a company vehicle.
Ability to pass a background check and drug screening.
