Summary
The Locomotive Mechanic / Electrician Helper assists experienced mechanics and electricians in the inspection, maintenance, and repair of diesel-electric locomotives. This position is designed for individuals with a basic understanding of electrical or mechanical systems who are eager to learn locomotive repair through hands-on training. Training will be provided. A strong work ethic, mechanical aptitude, and commitment to safety are essential. Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Assist mechanics and electricians with inspections, troubleshooting, and repairs on diesel-electric locomotives. Perform basic mechanical and electrical tasks under supervision. Retrieve tools, parts, and materials required for assigned work. Assist with battery servicing, lubrication, cleaning, and component removal/installation. Observe locomotive operation and assist in identifying abnormal conditions. Maintain a safe, clean, and organized work area. Safely operate basic hand tools and shop equipment as trained. Travel and work out of the home area as required, including overnight assignments. Work assigned shifts, overtime, and weekends as required. Maintain regular and reliable attendance. Learn locomotive systems including diesel engines, power generation, traction motors, and electrical controls. Demonstrate increasing independence as skills develop. Follow direction from senior mechanics and electricians. Complete required safety and customer training. Demonstrate readiness for advancement based on performance and skill development. Competencies

Education and/or Experience
High school diploma or GED required. Technical school, military experience, or exposure to heavy equipment or electrical systems preferred. Certificates & Licenses
Valid driver’s license required. Ability to pass required safety training. Physical Demands & Work Environment
This position requires standing, walking, climbing, stooping, kneeling, and lifting. Employees must be able to lift up to 25 pounds regularly and up to 100 pounds with assistance. Work is performed in shop and field environments with exposure to noise, weather, vibration, and electrical hazards. Career Progression
This is a developmental position with the intent to progress into a Locomotive Mechanic / Electrician role based on demonstrated skills, performance, and business need.
