Position Summary The responsibilities of Plant Records & Garden/Grounds Assistants involve gardening and maintenance activities such as planting, weeding, mowing, and pruning. This position also requires a moderate level of computer competence. Must be willing to learn plant record and inventory software and spend a significant portion of time at a computer, as well as in the garden. Assistants work alongside Garden Curators and Grounds Staff in maintaining formal gardens, trails, and natural areas gaining valuable hands‑on experience.
Duties & Responsibilities
Gardening and maintenance activities such as planting, weeding, mowing, and pruning to maintain formal gardens, trails, and natural areas (45% of time).
Assisting with plant records maintenance including data entry and inventory duties (45% of time).
Assist with special garden projects and other duties as assigned (10% of time).
Relevant/Preferred Education, Experience, Licensure, Certification Experience with Microsoft Excel and Teams.
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and/or Competencies Interest in and/or knowledge of plant identification is necessary.
Physical Demands Sitting while working on a computer for hours at a time is required when not outside. Working outside during adverse weather conditions. Physical activity including but not limited to mulching, weeding, raking, digging, and planting. Driving.
