Overview Our client is looking for an experienced Senior Property Accountant to take ownership of comprehensive accounting functions across a mixed real estate portfolio and related retail operations. This position plays a key role in supporting Property Management, Development, Leasing, and the broader finance team by delivering accurate financial data, clear reporting, and dependable operational support.
Core Responsibilities
Prepare and issue monthly rent billings, and oversee collection activity, including follow-up on overdue balances and applicable late fees.
Monitor tenant sales figures and compute percentage rent obligations.
Maintain and update tenant ledgers and rent rolls, ensuring all rent, CAM, and related charges are recorded correctly and collected in a timely manner.
Handle accounting processes related to tenant onboarding and move-outs.
Provide accounting support to property managers and assist in communications with tenants regarding financial matters.
Property Accounting & Financial Operations
Oversee daily accounting functions for a portfolio of commercial and residential assets.
Process and code accounts payable invoices, coordinating approvals with property management teams.
Reconcile accounts receivable activity and verify that all deposits are posted accurately.
Complete reconciliations for bank accounts, credit cards, and general ledger accounts.
Prepare monthly financial reporting packages, including analysis of variances versus budget and prior periods.
Contribute to the annual budgeting cycle, forecasting efforts, and year-end audit preparation.
Track capital expenditures and monitor project-related costs.
Maintain adherence to internal accounting policies, control procedures, and required external filings.
Participate in ad hoc analysis and special projects as they arise.
Required Background & Skills
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a closely related discipline (preferred).
A minimum of 5 years of accounting experience; exposure to commercial real estate required.
Working knowledge of budgeting processes and CAM reconciliations.
Experience with real estate or property management accounting software (e.g., Yardi, AppFolio).
Strong Excel capabilities, including advanced functions and data analysis.
Proven ability to operate independently and manage workload without significant supervision.
High attention to detail, strong organizational habits, and comfort juggling shifting priorities in a busy environment.
Excellent communication skills and a collaborative, solutions-oriented approach.
