HR Generalist (Payroll & Compliance Specialist)
The HR Generalist (Payroll & Compliance Specialist) plays a critical role in supporting a growing, multi‑state organization by ensuring accurate payroll processing, regulatory compliance, and consistent HR operations across all markets. Following the transition from a PEO model to in‑house HR administration through ADP Workforce Now, this role will own payroll accuracy, HRIS integrity, compliance reporting, and audit readiness while supporting benefits administration and employee lifecycle processes.
Key Responsibilities Payroll & HRIS Administration
Own end‑to‑end multi‑state payroll processing through ADP Workforce Now
Ensure payroll accuracy, timely processing, and resolution of discrepancies
Maintain HRIS data integrity, audits, and system accuracy
Partner with Finance and HR leadership on payroll audits and reporting
Support payroll transitions, system enhancements, and process improvements
Compliance & Regulatory Oversight
Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws across all operating states
Manage and support 401(k) administration, ACA tracking and filings, wage and hour compliance, and new hire reporting
Maintain documentation to support audits and regulatory inquiries
Partner with ADP and external vendors on compliance tools and dashboards
Benefits Administration Support
Assist with benefits enrollments, life events, and employee inquiries
Support benefits audits and reconciliations
Provide frontline employee benefits support as needed
HR Operations & Employee Support
Serve as an HR contact for employees and managers
Support onboarding, offboarding, and lifecycle processes
Assist with policy administration and acknowledgements
Internal Controls & Audit Readiness
Strengthen payroll and benefits internal controls
Ensure audit‑ready documentation and approvals
Identify risks and recommend corrective actions
Qualifications & Experience
5+ years HR Generalist experience with payroll and compliance focus
Multi‑state payroll and compliance experience
ADP Workforce Now experience strongly preferred
Strong attention to detail and independent work style
Schedule: Hybrid (2 days in office / 3 days home)
FLSA Status: Exempt $55,000‑$70,000 depending on experience
