The Senior Accountant (FP&A-Focused) will play a critical role in bridging accounting accuracy with forward-looking financial analysis to support decision making across CBC Corporate, development and construction functions. This role owns key components of month-end close but is equally, if not more, responsible for project-accounting, budgeting, forecasting and cashflow management.

The ideal candidate has a deep analytical mindset with strong accounting fundamentals – comfortable with translating data into reliable decision-making tools across a complex real estate entity structure. The role partners closely with Development, Acquisitions, Construction and Accounting to drive financial visibility and operating results. This position reports to the Director of Accounting.

Corporate & Entity-Level Accounting

Lead the month-end and quarter-end close process for multiple entities, including journal entries, accruals and reconciliations. Owns initial review of trial balances before submission to the Director of Accounting.

Maintain a robust close calendar to ensure consistent reporting deadlines.

Ensure financial statements are prepared in accordance with GAAP.

Track and record revenue in accordance with GAAP revenue recognition standards – Asset Management fees, Development Fees and Capital event related fees (acq, dispositions, etc).

Supports the full corporate budgeting cycle, including budget preparation, variance analysis, and integration of actual results into forecasts and management reporting.

Assist in preparation of 1099s and 1096s.

Assist in year-end audits and tax preparation in coordination with external audit and tax partners.

Project Accounting & Development Support

Works cross-functionally with Development teams to build, monitor, and refine project budgets from inception through final closeout.

Track pre-development, soft, and hard costs across all active projects; ensure proper capitalization and cost allocations.

Staff accountant assists with compiling information.

Conduct monthly project-level performance reviews, including variance analysis, budget health checks, and forecast updates.

Review monthly lender and investor draw packages, including supporting schedules and backup.

Track draw submissions, funding receipts, and related entries in the general ledger.

Assist in project close-out — reconciling final costs and preparing audit support.

Assist in the preparation and reconciliation of Work-in-Progress (WIP) schedules, ensuring accurate recognition of revenue, costs, and profit.

Cash Flow, Treasury & Funding

Support cash flow forecasting across corporate and project entities, contributing to CBC’s forecasting and project forecasting.

Coordinate with lenders to track funding schedules and ensure compliance with draw requirements.

Monitor key project KPIs: cost-to-complete, funding runway, burn rate, developer fee milestones.

Maintain 13-week cashflow dashboard and report out to leadership.

Lead roll-out of FP&A software.

Controls, Systems & Process Improvement

Strengthen internal controls, documentation and process workflows to support audit-ready accounting.

Help implement and optimize financial systems including SAGE, Notion, Procore.

Support the development of SOPs and internal control checklist.

Partner with VP of Finance and Accounting and Director of Accounting to design and refine existing reporting templates for leadership, investors and other cross-functional teams.

Serve as a cross-functional liaison between Accounting, Development, Construction, and Asset Management.

Contribute to department initiatives around scalability, automation, and continuous improvement.

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.

3-5 years of progressive FP&A experience with at least 1-2 years in real estate development or construction.

Hands-on experience with project/job cost accounting and draw preparation.

Proficiency with Sage Intacct, Timberscan, Procore, or similar ERP systems.

Advanced Excel and analytical skills (pivot tables, lookups, and financial modeling familiarity).

Excellent written and verbal communication skills; able to present complex financial information clearly.
