Adjunct Faculty Position—Counselor Education Kean University offers adjunct faculty positions on an as‑needed basis. Qualified candidates will be contacted if an opening becomes available.

Teaching responsibilities include introductory, advanced, and doctoral level courses, and field placement courses at the Union or Kean Ocean Campus in Toms River. Courses are scheduled in‑person once a week for three (3) hours, beginning at 4:30 pm or 7:30 pm at the Union campus. Kean Ocean offers weekend courses and some weekday evening courses.

All adjunct positions are non‑tenure track. They require a master’s degree in a related field and teaching experience unless otherwise indicated; candidates with an ABD, Ed.D., Ph.D. or other acceptable disciplinary doctorate are encouraged to apply.

Professional licensure: Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) certification is required; approved Clinical Supervisor (ACS) licensure preferred, or a school counselor certification to teach field placement courses. A Ph.D. in Counseling is required to teach doctoral level courses.

Proficiency with a Learning Management System is required, consistent with University guidelines.

Availability and Office Hours Adjunct faculty teaching one (3) or four (4) credit classes must provide at least one (1) hour of availability outside of class per week for the duration of each semester. An additional thirty (30) minutes of availability shall be provided for each additional class taught. Availability may be in person or virtual and shall be scheduled by the adjunct faculty member, taking into account student needs.

Adjunct faculty teaching fewer than three (3) credits must provide at least thirty (30) minutes of availability outside of class per week for the duration of each semester. Adjuncts may provide additional office hours beyond the amounts required at their discretion.

Compensation

Effective September 2024: $1,975 per credit.

Effective September 2025: $2,100 per credit.

Effective September 2026: $2,225 per credit.

Beginning in their 13th semester taught, adjuncts receive an additional $75 per credit.
