New River Light and Power: Power Line Tech II

Job Summary
Work in this class involves the construction, maintenance, and repair of high‑voltage underground and overhead primary and secondary electric distribution lines. Install and maintain New River Light and Power’s fiber‑optic network. CDL Class B will be required within 6 months of hire. Candidate will be asked to demonstrate physical and basic technical abilities as part of the interview and consideration process. Primary Responsibilities
Work with live high‑voltage conductors and maintain electrical equipment. Install underground power lines and repair overhead lines and poles. Install and maintain New River Light and Power’s fiber‑optic network cables. Climb, perform hand work, dig, heavy lift, and work in all weather conditions. Train and assist less experienced “B” line workers with proper repair of live high and low voltage lines. Use powered equipment and safety techniques, including climbing gear, bucket/digger trucks, excavators, high‑voltage gloves, and hoses. Job Requirements
Knowledge, skills, and abilities that involve the construction, maintenance, and repair of high‑voltage underground and overhead primary and secondary electric distribution lines. Must have the ability to operate university‑owned vehicles with a valid driver’s license. Demonstrates journeyman level skills and knowledge, with ability to complete both physical and technical duties. Must live or relocate within approximately 20 minutes of Boone within 90 days of hire. Designated as MANDATORY, this position is expected to be available for work during NRLP/University emergencies, closings, adverse weather conditions, and other department‑defined events. Will be part of after‑hours on‑call response rotation. Physical demands of the position – must be physically able to perform the duties of the job. Preferred Qualifications
Credentials from an Electrical Utility Lineman School Program and 4 years of electrical line‑worker related work experience or 5 years of electrical line‑worker related work experience. Lives within 20 minutes of Boone, NC. Holds DOL Journeyman credentials. Holds CDL Class B license. Apply online.
