All candidates must be eligible to work and live in the U.S. Department New River Light and Power Co - 170600 Primary Purpose of Position Work in this class involves the construction, maintenance, and repair of high-voltage underground and overhead primary and secondary electric distribution lines. Install and maintain New River Light and Power’s fiber-optic network. Minimum Qualifications Completion of high school and six months of electrical experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Special Note: Maintains required certifications. Special Note: This is a generalized representation of positions in this class and is not intended to reflect essential functions per ADA . License/Certification Required CDL is required within 6 months of hire date Essential Job Functions This position is responsible for working with live high voltage conductors, maintenance of electrical equipment, installation of underground power lines, and the repair of overhead lines and poles. Also will install and maintain NRLP’s fiber optic network cables. Climbing, hand work, digging, heavy lifting, and all weather work is required. This position must be able to train and assist less experienced “B” lineworkers with the proper repair of live high and low voltage lines. This position must be familiar in the use of various powered equipment and safety techniques including; climbing gear, bucket/digger trucks, excavators, high voltage gloves, and hoses. Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities Required for this Position
Knowledge, skills, and abilities that involve the construction, maintenance, and repair of high-voltage underground and overhead primary and secondary electric distribution lines.
Must have the ability to operate University owned vehicles with valid driver’s license.
Demonstrates journeyman level skills and knowledge, with ability to complete both physical and technical duties.
Must live or relocate to within approximately 20 minute commute of Boone within 90 days of hire.
Preferred Qualifications
Credentials from an Electrical Utility Lineman School Program and 4 years of electrical Lineworker related work experience or 5 years of electrical Lineworker related work experience.
Lives within 20 minutes of Boone, NC.
Holds DoL Journeyman credentials.
Holds CDL Class B license.

Must live or relocate to within approximately 20 minute commute of Boone within 90 days of hire.
Number of Hours Per Week 40 Number of Months Per Year 12 Mandatory Staff Yes Physical Demands of Position Employee must be physically able to perform the duties of the job.
