Airport Facilities Maintenance Grounds Mechanic III - Landside City of Atlanta – Job Description

Hourly pay: $23.48 - $28.17. Posting expires December 29, 2025.

General Description and Classification: Inspects and maintains airport grounds, roadways, fence lines, airfield grounds, hardscapes such as taxiways and runways, storm drains, etc. Duties include performing grounds maintenance, mowing, edging, pressure washing, spraying, FOD removal, commercial grade equipment usage, and snow and ice removal within secured and unsecured areas of the airport. Areas include fence lines, guard rails, security gates, walkways, runways, roadways, taxiways, terminals.

Responsibilities

Follow assigned instructions and tasks from Supervisor or Lead Mechanic.

Attend all assigned and required training.

Work daily with and in CMMS system.

FOD/trash removal airport wide.

Maintain airport grounds using non-motorized and motorized equipment such as weed eaters, chainsaws, blowers, mowers, sprayers.

Conduct daily inspections of vehicles and ground equipment.

Maintain airport and airfield using tractors, zero turns, remote control mowers, skid steers.

Maintain airfield and roadways using sweepers, blowers, snow and ice equipment, dump trucks.

Maintain storm drains with vector truck and jetter.

Use commercial grade vehicles for airfield and roadway/pavement repairs and snow/ice removal.

Make repairs to SIDA and perimeter fence.

Make repairs to pavement and concrete on airport properties including airfield.

Maintain roadway and ramp area markings.

Knowledge

Landscaping and landscaping equipment.

Storm drains.

Pavement repair.

Airfield and roadway markings.

Snow and ice removal.

Qualifications Minimum

5+ years landscaping experience.

Commercial grade equipment operator.

Heavy equipment operator.

Preferred

7+ years landscaping.

Access to AMA.

Computer skills; knowledge of CMMS, Microsoft Word, Outlook, Excel.

Education / Certifications

High school diploma or GED.

Trade/Technical school or higher – Preferred.

Licenses

CDL Class B.

CDL Class A – Preferred.

Essential Capabilities and Work Environment Requires physical strength, lifting capability, and sensory capabilities suitable for airport maintenance. Typical environmental conditions include working outdoors, in varying weather, and around aircraft operations.
