Facilities Manager (Georgetown, SC)

Advised by the University of South Carolina, this role oversees all facilities operations at the Baruch Marine Field Laboratory, serving as the primary contact for maintenance, construction, and emergencies. Responsibilities include supervising staff, managing budgets and contractors, ensuring safety compliance, and coordinating projects with campus partners and external organizations to support the facility’s research and educational mission.

Location:

Georgetown, SC – part of the Columbia campus.

Salary Range:

$65,539 – $98,308.

Commitment:

37.5 hours per week, Monday through Friday 8:30 AM – 5:00 PM.

Responsibilities:

Serves as the primary point of contact for all facilities concerns at BMFL, including off‑hour emergencies.

Supplies supervision and coordination of the facilities team of two tradesmen and one custodian.

Oversees facilities and vehicle management at BMFL to prioritize repairs, construction, and maintenance, ensuring activities remain within budget and comply with safety standards.

Monitors conditions and prioritizes projects in coordination with the BMFL Director, campus facilities office, maintenance staff, and independent contractors.

Oversees and coordinates all BMFL construction, groundskeeping, repairs, preventative maintenance, storm preparation, storm recovery, and insurance claims.

Serves as liaison with main campus (Columbia) staff in Facilities, College of Arts and Sciences, and Enterprise Risk Management & Insurance via phone, text, Google Suite, web‑conferencing, email, and standard word‑processing software.

Manages work performed at BMFL and coordinates all external contractors for efficient, cost‑effective, and safe work on‑site, minimizing impacts on research and education operations.

Coordinates with USC Facilities staff and regional contractors for bid package creation, pre‑ and post‑bid meetings, project cost estimation, and project execution.

Communicates and coordinates with BMFL staff and faculty as well as associated entities regarding upcoming projects and outages via email, phone, text, and video conference.

Contributes to the overall success of the College of Arts and Sciences by performing other duties as needed to support the operations and maintenance of Baruch Marine Field Laboratory.

Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree in a job‑related field.

Minimum 5 years of job‑related experience (or equivalent combination of certification, training, or experience).

Preferred Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree with 10 years of experience in facilities management.

High school diploma with 14 years of experience in facilities management or a diversified building/maintenance activity (e.g., general contracting).

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Knowledge of document processing, spreadsheets and databases, HTML, CSS, PHP, and content management systems.

Ability to tow and back a trailer.

Knowledge of marine culture systems, including plumbing, pumps, filtration, and lighting.
