Lead Child and Youth Program Assistant (Level 5) CY-02 Temporary (NTE 180 days) Part‑Time position with a minimum work week of 20 hours. Located at the Fort Polk Child Development Center (6 weeks–5 years) in Leesville, Louisiana. Eligible for benefits and leave accrual.

Scope of Work

Supervises children and youth ranging in age from 6 weeks to 18 years during the daily schedule of indoor and outdoor activities, field trips, outings, and special events.

Plans, coordinates, and conducts activities for program participants based on observed needs of individual children and youth. Prepares and implements program options for children and youth with special requirements.

Instructs team members in specific tasks and job techniques; provides written instructions, reference materials, and supplies. Explains program guidance, procedures, policies, and directives to team members.

Uses designated evaluation materials to ensure the assigned area is in compliance with Department of Defense (DoD) and local installation standards. Ensures the area maintains standards for DoD certification and national accreditation or equivalent.

Completes training requirements using approved service materials, including designated training modules. Performs related duties as assigned.

Requirements

Direct deposit and Social Security Card required.

Must be at least 18 years of age at time of appointment and meet qualification/eligibility/background requirements for this position.

One‑year probationary period may be required.

Completion of an employment verification (E‑Verify) check.

Completion of pre‑employment background checks per AR 215‑3, 2‑15m., and a Childcare Tier 1 background investigation required.

Successful completion of Lead Foundation Level training and annual training requirements required.

May be subject to irregular hours, evening, and/or weekends.

For positions in Child Development Centers, physical ability to lift and carry up to 40 lb., and to walk, bend, stoop, and stand routinely.

Must report all suspected incidents of child abuse/neglect.

Incumbent must administer routine and rescue medications prescribed by a physician, perform CPR and first aid, and provide reasonable accommodations for children/youth with special needs.

Travel to on‑ and off‑post locations may be required. Duties involve working indoors and outdoors.

Must have a current health assessment documenting good mental and physical health, freedom from communicable disease, and valid immunizations per current Army and DoD policy, including annual influenza vaccination.

Qualifications

High school diploma or GED certificate.

Effective oral and written communication in English.

Must possess at least one of the following:

Child Development Associate (CDA) Credential, Military School Age Credential, Army Youth Practicum, or another nationally recognized Youth Development Credential directly related to the age group assigned.

Two years of specialized experience working in a group program with children or youth plus an associate’s degree or at least 60 semester hours with major coursework (24 semester hours) directly related to the age group, e.g., Early Childhood Education/Child Development, Elementary Education, Special Education (general psychology/sociology coursework is not qualifying).

A bachelor’s degree or at least 120 semester hours with major coursework (24 semester hours) directly related to the age group.

24 months of working in a group childcare or youth program with completion of DoD‑approved competency training courses, evidenced by service‑issued documentation.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience assisting with childcare or youth program national accreditation processes.

Experience participating in multi‑disciplinary or higher‑level child/youth program inspections.

Experience working with varying age groups (early childhood, school age, youth).

Experience leading or mentoring lower‑level childcare/youth program staff.

Education / Supporting Documents

Proof of education (high school diploma/GED, college transcripts/diploma, CDA, etc.) must be provided at the time of application.

If qualifying via DoD‑approved competency training courses, supply one of: completed Foundation IDP signed by employee and supervisor, signed Foundation (or equivalent) certificate, or memorandum indicating completion of Foundation training with contact information.

VLS certificates without an accompanying IDP will not be accepted.

Eligibility

U.S. citizens, nationals, or U.S. residents with at least three continuous years of residency immediately preceding the start of Federal affiliation.
