POSITION SUMMARY The Operations Supervisor is responsible for supervising labor management and the planning of inbound, outbound, product slotting, and customer communication activities on a daily basis. This includes labor scheduling, space utilization, equipment and manpower management. Responsibilities also cover hiring, training, performance appraisals, managing daily work assignments, and ensuring consistent improvement of operational processes. Under the direction of the Operations Manager or Distribution Center Manager, the supervisor ensures the receiving, warehousing, and shipping of products meet service and cost objectives.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Conduct staff meetings to review daily/weekly work activities and drive continuous improvement.
Communicate critical issues to senior management and client representatives.
Develop and enforce systems and procedures for safe and profitable operations, meeting productivity and service goals.
Implement and report on cost‑saving measures, providing ideas for operational efficiency.
Meet client‑specified KPI’s and comply with quality system requirements.
Motivate and supervise team members, providing direction, counseling, and performance support.
Support Human Resources with hiring, training, and professional development programs.
Perform overall training and evaluation responsibilities for warehouse staff.
Plan daily work schedules based on work orders, arrival notices, and customer instructions.
Review pending jobs and reorganize warehouse space as needed.
Train new staff and assess trainee progress.
Monitor job quantity and quality, providing guidance and advice.
Delegate supervisory duties to experienced team members and monitor progress.
Report daily progress or problems to management and hold regular meetings with staff.
Assist in physical operations as needed, delivering results through effective staffing.
Maintain motivation to achieve high customer satisfaction levels.
Provide growth and development opportunities for team members.
Support adherence to Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and train staff accordingly.
SKILLS & ABILITIES Education & Experience
High school diploma or general education degree (GED).
3 years’ experience in logistics/distribution or a related environment.
1 year experience in a supervisory role.
Preferred: MHE certification or knowledge of basic MHE operation.
Certificates & Licenses
Completion of a forklift training program.
Computer Skills
Proficient in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
Experience with RF scanners.
Knowledge of WMS functions.
Language Skills
English – reading, writing, verbal.
Business communication.
Mathematical Skills
Basic‑to‑intermediate proficiency for verifying quantities, counting inventory, and related duties.
