Position Mobile Diesel Technician Level II.
As a Mobile Diesel Technician II, you will perform licensed DOT inspections, preventative maintenance inspections, light and follow‑up repairs, and diagnostics for light, medium, and heavy‑duty vehicles in a mobile field environment. You will learn advanced mechanical skills and diagnostic techniques under the supervision of a Senior Mobile Diesel Technician or higher, and comply with all company policies to achieve high level performance metrics.
DUTIES
Perform scheduled preventative maintenance (PM), DOT inspections, and follow‑up repairs on light, medium, and heavy‑duty vehicles in a mobile/field environment.
Perform minor adjustments and repairs on various truck equipment, including electrical, brake, cooling systems, starters, alternators, fan clutches, engine electronics, diesel steering systems, engines (gas and diesel), transmissions, clutches, and differentials.
Diagnose, adjust, and repair various truck equipment including electrical, brake, cooling systems, and more.
Inspect, test, and listen to defective equipment to diagnose malfunctions using handheld computers, pressure gauges, and other test instruments.
Road test vehicles to diagnose malfunctions and ensure proper operation.
Identify problems, determine accuracy and relevance of information, and evaluate alternatives using sound judgment.
Independently manage parts inventory and equipment on the company‑issued service truck, performing periodic reconciliation.
Maintain and operate the company‑issued service vehicle, conducting safety checks and pre/post‑trip inspections.
Work effectively with clients and customers to assess needs, provide assistance, resolve problems, and satisfy expectations.
Manage concurrent tasks, prioritizing work and allocating time effectively.
Use hand tools, precision instruments, diesel tools, welding equipment, lift, and jacks.
Document work according to company standards, uploading pictures, parts used, and findings on Repair Orders using the iOS device and TRAIT application.
Accurately complete DOT forms and other documentation promptly.
Work independently and manage daily schedule.
Maintain a high level of productivity and work within or close to most Standard Repair Times.
Obtain parts from approved local and national vendors as needed.
Communicate with management and support team via email or phone to obtain approvals on repair estimates, retrieve purchase order numbers, and discuss Repair Order findings.
Perform all work in compliance with safety, health, and environmental policies, and federal regulations (OSHA, EPA, DOT).
Maintain the company‑issued service truck and conduct safety checks with daily pre/post‑trip inspections.
REQUIREMENTS
High school diploma or GED and at least 3 years’ experience in a related field. A different combination, such as a degree or certification beyond the diploma, or 5 years’ experience, is acceptable.
Possess and supply a set of hand tools necessary to perform the required job duties.
Obtain Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) certification T8 (PMI) within 18 months.
Pass DOT‑regulated pre‑employment background screening and DOT physical prior to employment.
Have a current and valid DOT medical card with more than four months remaining until expiration (or submit a DOT physical if the card has less than four months).
Be at least 21 years old due to interstate operating authority regulations.
Hold a valid state driver’s license and maintain a Driver Qualification File.
