About The Role The Senior Mechanical Engineer – ETO (Engineer to Order) will serve as a technical leader within the ETO Team in Louisville, KY, focusing on customized mechanical design and system integration for packaging automation systems. This role requires a solid engineering foundation, creativity, and strong collaboration skills to deliver tailored solutions that align with Packsize’s high standards for performance, reliability, and sustainability.

You will lead the design and integration of Packsize technology with third‑party hardware and software systems such as conveyance, dimensioners, printers, scanners, and vision systems. You’ll also mentor junior engineers, support cross‑functional design reviews, and drive the continuous improvement of design processes and documentation standards.

Education, Experience, And Skills Desired

BS/MS in Mechanical Engineering or a related field

7+ years of relevant experience in machine design, automation, or related industries

Proficiency in Creo for 3D CAD design and Windchill for PDM/PLM data management

Experience with SolidWorks and 3DExperience platforms is a plus

Proven ability to lead mechanical design projects from concept through production

Strong understanding of design for manufacturing, serviceability, and reliability

Experience integrating mechanical, electrical, and software systems

Knowledge of automation components, sensors, and motion systems

Familiarity with lean product development and design thinking methodologies

Excellent problem‑solving, mentoring, and communication skills

Experience transferring designs from prototype to production environments

Understanding of industrial safety standards and risk assessment processes

What You’ll Do

Lead the mechanical design of custom ETO packaging systems and components

Collaborate with cross‑functional teams to define customer requirements and technical specifications

Develop and review detailed 3D models, drawings, and BOMs in Creo and Windchill

Integrate external hardware/software into Packsize machines (conveyors, scanners, printers, etc.)

Provide engineering guidance throughout the product lifecycle—from concept to installation

Conduct design reviews, tolerance analyses, and risk assessments

Support prototype builds and perform hands‑on testing, troubleshooting, and validation

Ensure design compliance with Packsize standards, safety, and quality requirements

Mentor junior engineers and contribute to team development and knowledge sharing

Drive continuous improvement initiatives in design processes and documentation

Collaborate closely with manufacturing, supply chain, and service teams to ensure successful product delivery

A Few Other Things

Up to 25% travel as needed for customer site visits and installations

Ability to perform hands‑on prototype fabrication and assembly as needed

Comfortable working in a dynamic, collaborative, and innovative R&D environment
