Resident Engineer – HDR
In the Transportation Business Group, you’ll help shape the systems that move people and goods safely, efficiently, and sustainably. From designing resilient highways and iconic bridges to advancing transit, passenger and freight rail, aviation, federal transportation ports and marine infrastructure, your work will directly support economic vitality, public safety, sustainable communities and quality of life.
Responsibilities
Manage a staff of construction professionals including Assistant Resident Engineers, Office Engineers, Field Inspectors, etc.
Manage one or a portfolio of projects at Transportation Facilities such as tunnels, bridges, terminals, airports, transit systems, ports, etc.
Run construction progress meetings and oversee project schedule, cost, QA/QC inspections, testing, acceptance and turnover.
Process change orders and negotiate construction claims.
Coordinate with contractors to plan and execute construction in coordination with facility operations.
Provide guidance and leadership to less‑experienced field staff as needed.
Perform other duties as required.
Preferred Qualifications
Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering or related field.
10+ years of construction experience, including 3+ years as an Assistant Resident Engineer working on major transportation/infrastructure projects for public agencies such as PANYNJ, MTA, NJ Transit, NJTA, NJDOT.
Excellent organizational and communication skills.
OSHA 30‑hour training.
PE license in New York or New Jersey.
Preference given to local candidates.
Required Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Construction Technology, or a combination of education and relevant experience.
A minimum of 5 years of progressive construction experience on multidisciplinary projects.
Fundamental understanding of contracts and familiarity with codes and laws governing construction.
Ability to read and interpret construction drawings and specifications and identify discrepancies or conflicts within documents.
Ability to work in a team environment.
Computer literate; experience with Microsoft Office, Primavera, or related construction packages.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Active participation in HDR’s employee‑owned culture is required.

Compensation Estimated range: $106,138 – $151,625.
