Forensic Mechanical Engineer
Location: Austin
Full-Time | Hybrid
A confidential consulting firm is seeking a Forensic Mechanical Engineer to carry out evaluations of building systems, equipment performance, and causation analysis across a range of commercial and industrial properties. This role involves both technical engineering work and investigation‑based consulting, with exposure to insurance, legal, and owner‑side clients.
Responsibilities
Conduct on‑site assessments of building mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems
Diagnose failure mechanisms and system performance issues
Produce written findings, technical opinions, and repair recommendations
Coordinate with internal and external stakeholders on project deliverables
Oversee small to mid‑sized assignments independently with limited oversight
Support client relationships and repeat work opportunities
Qualifications
PE license required (or ability to obtain via reciprocity)
7+ years of MEP engineering experience
Design domain knowledge
Experience in troubleshooting, diagnostics, system evaluations, or claims‑related work
Strong analytical and report‑writing ability
Comfortable working independently in the field as well as in a consulting setting
