Personal Financial Counselor; Whiteman AFB, MO - Assignment Ready Counselor
This position provides short‑term, surge, and on‑demand coverage for military financial counseling needs, such as post‑deployment events or covering absent counselors. Primary responsibilities encompass the full range of personal financial counseling services to service members and their families at military installations, including one‑on‑one counseling, briefings, presentations, and referrals to external resources. The counselor collaborates with installation and branch points of contact (POC) to ensure the program meets scope and installation needs.
Responsibilities
Provide personal financial counseling and management services directly to service members and their families.
Assist service members in establishing a spending plan for extended absences.
Develop and make available informational financial materials to service members and families.
Coordinate, publicize, and provide a wide variety of Personal Financial Management classes/workshops covering the military lifecycle.
Respond to requests for age‑appropriate classes or seminars.
Effectively utilize virtual counseling or other electronic communication modes (web‑based chat, video, secure teleconference).
Manage duty‑to‑warn situations per DoD protocol.
Communicate with leadership and participate in regular supervision, sharing trends and issues.
Participate in regular in‑services, training, quality improvement committees, or other contractual activities as assigned.
Perform all other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree required; an associate degree plus 4 years of experience, or a high‑school diploma plus 6 years, may substitute.
3+ years of financial counseling experience.
U.S. citizenship and fluent English required; bilingual English and Spanish required if contract demands.
Ability to obtain a favorably adjudicated Tier 2 investigation.
Must pass the Congressionally Mandated Disclosures for Organizational Conflicts of Interest (OCI) process.
Must hold a recognized certification: AFC, CFP, or ChFC.
