A well-established and expanding real estate management group is seeking an experienced Controller to oversee their accounting and financial operations. This is a senior, hands‑on leadership role with broad exposure across acquisitions, dispositions, financing, compliance, and portfolio‑level reporting. The Controller will play a key role in strengthening financial processes, supporting growth initiatives, and providing clear, actionable insights to ownership and senior leadership. Key Responsibilities
Oversee general ledger activities and month-end, quarter-end, and year-end close processes across multiple entities. Prepare and review financial statements, variance analysis, and management and asset-level reporting. Support acquisitions and dispositions through financial analysis, due diligence, and transaction support. Maintain accurate accounting and reporting for real estate assets throughout the investment lifecycle. Manage cash flow forecasting, budgeting, and key performance indicator (KPI) reporting. Ensure accurate accounting across various ownership structures and legal entities. Coordinate with external auditors, tax advisors, lenders, and other third-party partners. Oversee tax compliance processes and ensure timely and accurate filings. Develop, implement, and enhance accounting policies, procedures, and internal controls. Partner with internal teams and external stakeholders on operational, leasing, and asset-related matters. Oversee insurance renewals and ongoing compliance requirements. Candidate Profile
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field required; CPA strongly preferred (MBA or Master’s a plus). 10+ years of progressive accounting experience, including 3–4+ years in real estate accounting. Strong knowledge of GAAP and real estate accounting practices; experience with complex ownership structures preferred. Proficiency with real estate accounting systems (e.g., Yardi), advanced Excel skills, and familiarity with ERP/reporting tools. Proven leadership capability with strong analytical, communication, and stakeholder management skills. Highly organized, detail-oriented, and able to manage multiple priorities in a fast‑paced environment with integrity and sound judgment. Knowledge of NYC and NY State real estate tax regulations and compliance requirements. Exposure to institutional reporting standards and lender/investor reporting. Next Steps
