About the Role The Financial Counselor provides guidance to patients in all aspects of their financial responsibilities that result from acceptance of the facility's services. The role involves assessing patients' financial ability, determining ability to pay, advising on insurance benefits, explaining financial liability, collecting payments, negotiating payment arrangements, securing financing, identifying funding sources, and resolving any confusion the patient may have about their obligations to the facility.
Key Responsibilities
Assess patients' financial ability and determine ability to pay.
Advise patients on insurance benefits and explain financial liability.
Conduct accurate and timely verification of insurance benefits, including contacting patients and/or guardians for additional information.
Research and maintain knowledge of HMO, PPO, Medicaid, Medicare, and commercial insurance reimbursement rates and criteria.
Calculate and estimate patients' out‑of‑pocket charges.
Collect payments such as co‑pays, co‑insurance, deductibles.
Negotiate payment arrangements, secure financing, and identify funding sources.
Resolve any confusion the patient may have about financial obligations.

Qualifications and Requirements
High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
Previous experience in healthcare collections or a related field, or a combination of education, training, or experience in a health care business office setting preferred.
May be required to work flexible hours and overtime.
