Non‑Profit Controller- John Evans Recruiting has been engaged on a confidential search for a
Director of Accounting
to succeed a long‑tenured leader retiring after 20 years of service. This seasoned accounting professional will manage month‑end close, compliance, and financial oversight in such settings. This is a hands‑on leadership role overseeing a team of
four direct reports , partnering closely with executive leadership, and presenting to the Board. The Director will manage the full budgeting process, maintain strong internal controls, and ensure the organization’s financial operations remain accurate, compliant, and audit‑ready. The ideal candidate is a relationship‑driven, detail‑oriented CPA who can lead with confidence, develop staff, and navigate multiple stakeholder groups with professionalism and clarity. Key Responsibilities
Lead and manage all accounting operations, including month‑end close in a regulated environment. Supervise and develop a team of four accounting professionals. Maintain compliance with all applicable government agencies and regulatory bodies. Serve as the primary point of contact for external auditors. Oversee internal books, financial records, and accounting controls. Analyze financial transactions and ensure adherence to GAAP. Prepare and manage the annual budget; provide reporting and insights to leadership and the Board. Build strong cross‑functional relationships and represent the accounting function with professionalism and credibility. Qualifications
CPA required
(active). Bachelor’s degree in Accounting; 5–7+ years of progressive accounting experience. Experience working in a
regulated industry
with ownership of month‑end close. Strong GAAP knowledge and demonstrated ability to maintain internal controls. Fluency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Outlook, Word, PowerPoint). Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills. Proven ability to lead teams, develop talent, and collaborate across departments. Ability to work
