FOOD UNIT LEAD (FULL TIME) Chartwells Higher Education Dining Services

Location: Radford University, Radford, VA (801 East Main St, Radford VA 24142)

Job Summary Coordinates activities of other food‑service employees and creates an enjoyable dining experience for customers, staff and visitors.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Provides quality customer service by giving one-on-one attention to detail.

Oversees preparation and service of food and beverage items in accordance with company standards for presentation, sanitation, safety and portion control.

Helps plan menus.

Ensures timely, efficient meal service and supervises the serving of meals.

Responds to customer complaints in person at the time of the complaint and via email for electronic complaints.

Trains employees; assigns and coordinates work to promote efficiency and excellence in food and service.

Determines work procedures, prepares work schedules and expedites workflow.

Uses systems for completion of required daily, weekly, and monthly reports such as inventory‑cash reports, production records, payroll and time‑keeping.

Manages cash handling as established by the Food Accounting Manual.

Orders food and other supplies from approved sources or purveyors.

Directs and participates in overall sanitation and safety of the facility and employees in accordance with company standards and government regulations.

Develops sanitation schedule and ensures adherence by food‑service employees for cleaning of kitchen and dining area and washing of utensils and equipment.

Issues written and oral instructions.

Helps select and orient employees; oversees staff training in areas of responsibility.

Performs other duties as assigned.

Requirements Previous supervisory experience in a culinary environment is required.

Schedule & Compensation Full‑time schedule. Open availability is preferred. Varying shifts are available from 6:00 AM to 1:00 AM, including nights, weekends, and varying days. Pay range: $17.30–$19.30 per hour.

Additional Information Because this position requires you to perform services in an educational facility, there may be periods when the company does not require you to perform work. Such periods may be unpaid and deemed temporary layoffs. Work may be required year‑round, possibly at a different location during break periods.
