Telecommunications Technician 1 – Hiring Event – Charleston, SC with Security Clearance
Location: Embassy Suites by Hilton Charleston Airport Hotel & Convention Center, 5055 International Blvd, North Charleston, SC 29418
Date & Time: Thursday, 1/15/26 from 9:00am – 3:00pm
Overview The Telecommunications Technician 1 is responsible for the installation of communications cabling and equipment in accordance with all applicable plans, specifications, codes, and industry standards. This role includes experience installing basic equipment using hand tools and power tools, understanding telecom systems, blueprints, and codes.
Technicians will gain knowledge of telecommunication systems including OSP & ISP Copper, CCTV, Distributed Antenna Systems (DAS), Fiber Optic, and Structured Cabling. Each technician must strive to become a qualified BICSI Technician.
Core market sector: Low‑Voltage specialty contracting for Healthcare, Government, Higher Education, Federal Aviation (preferred) and Mission Critical industries.
Responsibilities
Basic knowledge of operating hand and power tools safely, adhering to safety regulations.
Survey and document existing telecommunications infrastructure (copper and fiber cables).
Sketch rack, floor, and wall elevations.
Terminate, test, and troubleshoot horizontal copper (Cat 5, Cat 6).
Install various types of low‑voltage cabling, including ISP/OSP telecommunications systems.
Work with cable trays, cabinets, racks, and prefabricated assemblies.
Grounding systems and cable routing from Telecommunications Rooms (TR) to work area outlets (WAO).
Use a full set of tools prior to first day of employment.
Understand color codes and TIA/EIA standards.
Label and test horizontal cable.
Perform quality assurance checks to ensure compliance.
Maintain a clean working environment and participate in daily site cleanup.
Secure company tools and materials daily.
Install backbone and riser cable, cable trays, and site grounding.
Possible travel up to 25% (domestic and/or international).
Qualifications
Minimum 3+ years of related telecommunications experience, focusing on OSP & ISP Copper, CCTV, DAS, fiber optic, and structured cabling.
High school diploma or GED required.
Minimum age 18 with reliable transportation.
Experience in federal, government, healthcare, commercial, and mission critical facilities.
Ability to pass basic telecommunications knowledge test.
Experience reading plans and specifications.
Strong communication, time‑management, and organization skills.
Dependable attendance and teamwork.
Personal protective equipment: long pants and a shirt covering shoulders by six inches.
Provide basic tools from the provided list before first day.
Additional drug screening and background check; subject to security investigation; U.S. citizenship for secret clearance.
Desired: BICSI Technician credential.
Manufacturing certifications and/or fiber certification.
Microsoft Office applications experience.
Abilities
Lift, carry, move up to 50 lbs. Regularly perform loading, unloading, and transport tasks.
Use proper lifting techniques and safety protocols.
Relocate a 12‑foot stepladder without assistance.
Work at heights up to 60 feet on scaffolds, aerial lifts, catwalks, and ladders.
Walk, climb, lift, squat, crawl, kneel, push, pull, and reach overhead routinely.
Good vision (corrected permitted); color vision; hearing and speaking English.
Use standard ladder within weight limits while carrying tools.
Recognize potential problems without solving them.
Apply general rules to specific problems to produce logical answers.
Combine pieces of information to form general conclusions.
