Overview As a Systems Engineer, you will be responsible for defining, architecting, and supporting next‑generation 4G/5G/6G RAN and DAS system features as part of the Architecture & Engineering Division. This developer‑first systems engineering position focuses on Layer 2 (MAC/packet processing/scheduling) but includes exposure to Layer 1/PHY and embedded software. You will work closely with global engineering teams, PLM, sales, technical support, and customers to translate requirements into scalable engineering solutions and ensure seamless integration across our DAS and converged RAN + DAS portfolio. This role is based in a hybrid arrangement in Richardson, TX.
Responsibilities
Define product features and system behavior for 4G, 5G, and emerging 6G technologies across DAS and converged RAN architectures.
Design and develop Layer 2 (MAC) and packet‑processing system behavior in C/C++.
Contribute to scheduler and real‑time data path design.
Debug complex issues at the MAC/PHY boundary.
Translate operator, neutral‑host, and enterprise customer requirements into clear engineering specifications.
Lead cross‑functional alignment across embedded software, RF, systems engineering, platform teams, QA, and PLM.
Work directly with customers to gather requirements, validate features, and resolve issues.
Drive O‑RAN‑aligned architecture definition across C‑Plane, U‑Plane, S‑Plane, and M‑Plane interfaces.
Support integration of DAS hardware and software components within broader RAN deployments.
Partner with sales and technical support teams to support customer feature discussions and product positioning.
Ensure system performance alignment with LTE, 5G NR, WCDMA, and evolving 6G requirements.
Required Qualifications
Degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or related discipline.
8+ years of experience in telecommunications, wireless infrastructure, RAN systems, embedded systems, or similar technical areas.
Strong understanding of LTE, 5G NR, WCDMA base‑station architecture, signaling, and performance.
Hands‑on experience in Layer 2 (MAC, packet processing, scheduling) development.
Exposure to Layer 1/PHY, signal processing, or baseband systems.
Hands‑on knowledge of O‑RAN standards, including C‑Plane, U‑Plane, S‑Plane, and M‑Plane.
Expertise with CPRI/eCPRI and high‑speed fronthaul transport.
Proficiency in embedded C, low‑level programming, device drivers, HAL, and board bring‑up.
Strong understanding of RF concepts, network planning, and integration of RAN/DAS components.
Experience with telecom networking equipment (switches, timing/sync elements, fronthaul/backhaul).
Deep knowledge of IPv4/IPv6, multicast/simulcast, and Ethernet transport for real‑time RAN systems.
Working knowledge of PTP 1588v2 and packet‑based timing distribution.
Understanding of telecom security protocols, procedures, and factory security processes.
Willingness to work hybrid (3 days a week in office) in Richardson, TX; no relocation assistance available.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience with major network vendors or DAS/neutral‑host companies.
Experience working with silicon vendors in platform or embedded development.
Involvement in product definition, standardization efforts, or early‑phase architecture work.
Direct experience supporting operators, stadium deployments, or enterprise networks.
Ability to communicate complex technical concepts clearly to both engineering and customer audiences.
