Drywall Project Manager – Job Description Position Overview The Drywall Project Manager is responsible for planning, coordinating, and overseeing all phases of drywall and interior construction projects from preconstruction through closeout. This role ensures work is performed safely, on schedule, within budget, and according to quality standards and project specifications. The Project Manager partners closely with field leadership, trade partners, clients, and internal stakeholders to drive successful project delivery.
Key Responsibilities Project Planning & Preconstruction
Review project drawings, specifications, and scope to develop accurate budgets, schedules, and staffing plans.
Participate in project kickoff meetings and coordinate with estimating to validate cost and material assumptions.
Assist in buyout and procurement of materials, equipment, and subcontracted scopes.
Develop project‑specific work plans, safety plans, and submittal logs.
Project Management & Execution
Lead day‑to‑day management of drywall and framing operations, ensuring alignment with project schedules, milestones, and production goals.
Coordinate work with field supervisors, foremen, and crews to ensure efficient manpower allocation.
Oversee material deliveries, inventory tracking, and equipment management to prevent delays or cost impacts.
Maintain accurate project documentation including RFIs, submittals, change orders, meeting minutes, and daily progress reports.
Identify scope gaps, design conflicts, or schedule risks and proactively resolve issues.
Manage project budgets including labor tracking, equipment, materials, and subcontractor costs.
Prepare and submit change orders and cost updates; maintain accurate forecasting and job cost reports.
Review job cost data with project leadership to ensure profitability and financial control.
Approve invoices, purchase orders, and timesheets as required.
Quality & Safety
Ensure all work is completed according to quality standards, building codes, and customer expectations.
Conduct site walks with field supervision to verify compliance with drawings and specifications.
Support and enforce company safety policies and procedures; participate in site safety meetings and inspections.
Client & Stakeholder Relations
Serve as primary point of contact for clients, architects, GCs, and internal partners for drywall scope.
Attend jobsite coordination meetings and represent the drywall team professionally.
Maintain strong client relationships, ensuring customer satisfaction throughout the project lifecycle.
Project Closeout
Oversee punch list completion with field teams.
Ensure all closeout documentation—including warranties, O&M manuals, and as‑built drawings—is completed accurately.
Conduct post‑project reviews to identify lessons learned and improve future project performance.
Qualifications Required
3–7+ years of drywall or interior finishes project management experience, preferably with a self‑perform contractor.
Strong knowledge of commercial drywall, framing, acoustical systems, and interior assemblies.
Proven ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
Excellent communication, organization, and leadership skills.
Proficiency in construction software such as Procore, Bluebeam, PlanGrid, or CMiC.
Ability to read and interpret construction drawings and specifications.
Strong understanding of cost control, estimating, scheduling, and production tracking.
Preferred
Experience with self‑perform drywall operations.
Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Engineering, Architecture, or related field.
OSHA 30 certification.
Strong problem‑solving and decision‑making skills.
Ability to build relationships with field teams and clients.
Detail‑oriented with strong ownership of deadlines.
Financial and analytical mindset.
Ability to thrive in a fast‑paced construction environment.
