Responsibilities
Perform a wide variety of professional engineering work in office or field settings on highway construction projects involving bridges, buildings, walls, barriers, drainage structures, sign structures, and appurtenances.
Work as a field engineer to ensure contractors build structures in compliance with contract documents such as Standard Plans, Standard Specifications, contract plans, and Special Provisions.
Assist with Structure Representation on projects where the work is predominately structural (e.g., bridges, tall walls) and apply the Streets & Highways Code Section 137.6 as appropriate.
Act as Assistant Structure Representative or Assistant Resident Engineer / Resident Engineer on construction projects as assigned.
Participate in the mandatory Professional Development Rotation Program, which may require relocation up to 50 miles from the permanent unit and loan assignments to other project delivery functions.
Eligibility & Minimum Qualifications
Eligibility determined by score on the Transportation Engineer (Civil) exam or by possession of a valid Professional Engineer license (Civil) issued by the California Board of Registration for Professional Engineers for Range D.
Must be on the state examination list; candidates lacking current eligibility must be on that list or be applying for eligibility.
Must satisfy Minimum Qualifications as set forth in the Classification Specification (Pattern II).
Required to demonstrate education, experience, or license evidence during the application review.
Special Requirements
Appointment to Range D requires a valid Professional Engineering license (Civil) issued by the California Board of Registration for Professional Engineers.
Statement of Qualifications (SOQ) is required. One page or less using 12‑point font, addressing: why you want to work for Structure Construction; examples of initiative and teamwork.
Submit unofficial transcripts or degree equivalency reports for foreign credentials as specified.
