BIOMEDICAL EQUIPMENT TECHNICIAN (BMET) II – DIGITAL TECHNOLOGY SERVICES

As a BMET II, you will maintain medical equipment readiness, ensure compliance with manufacturer specifications, and support the Medical Equipment Management Plan (MEMP) to improve patient safety.

Responsibilities

Test and calibrate medical devices for preventive maintenance.

Troubleshoot devices in clinical or bench/depot settings for corrective maintenance.

Install and inspect new trial or demonstration equipment before use.

Ensure devices are safe and meet standards for manufactured software, parts, and equipment.

Maintain compliance with regulatory processes (CMS, FDA GMP, NJDOH, etc.).

Manage medical software and hardware systems such as PACS, integration, alarm management, and RTLS.

Educate team members on proper use, care, and maintenance of medical devices.

Review technical manuals for product specifications and safety.

Document all maintenance, repairs, and maintain records of activities.

Troubleshoot device networks to ensure operational effectiveness.

Maintain inventory of repair parts, supplies, and technical resources.

Order repair parts via the HMH ERP system.

Track incoming and outgoing equipment for repair and maintenance.

Refer devices not conforming to specification for repair to leadership.

Transport devices and source couriers between Biomedical Engineering and device owner sites.

Perform repairs as directed.

Stay informed about changes, enhancements, and versions related to equipment.

Attend on‑site training, off‑site or out‑of‑state training (including overnight stays).

Travel to other Hackensack Meridian Health locations as needed.

Participate in on‑calls as directed by the BMET Supervisor or Biomedical Engineering Director.

Complete other duties and projects assigned.

Adhere to HMH competencies and standards of behavior.

Lift and move up to 50 lbs.; stand for a minimum of 6 hours per day.

Qualifications

BS in Electronics or Biomedical Engineering Technology with 1 year full‑time BMET experience OR AS in Electronics or Biomedical Engineering Technology with 2 years full‑time experience OR Completion of a U.S. military biomedical equipment technology program with 2 years full‑time experience OR High school diploma/GED with 4 years full‑time BMET experience.

Basic understanding of electronic/mechanical devices.

Basic understanding of, and ability to communicate about, common patient‑care medical devices.

Ability to locate and follow manufacturer documentation.

Understanding of computerized maintenance management systems.

Access to public FDA 510(k) information about patient‑care devices.

Knowledge of device recalls.

Understanding of customer service principles.

Familiarity with the hospital or clinic environment they support.

Unrestricted ability to attend training that may include overnight stays.

Basic understanding of local, state, and federal regulatory requirements.

Knowledge of various types of patient‑care equipment and associated risks.

Basic terminology used in project management.

Knowledge of current technology and its uses in healthcare.

Performs duties with little supervision.

Experience in a wide range of electromechanical devices, computers, networks, and software used in healthcare delivery.

Preferred

AS degree or higher with 2 years full‑time experience in Biomedical Engineering.

Various current OEM certifications for supporting and maintaining patient‑care devices.

Knowledge of Joint Commission, CMMS, NJDOH standards.

Experience in a hospital environment or medical equipment manufacturer.

Licenses and Certifications

Valid motor vehicle operator’s license.

Compensation Minimum hourly rate of $34.65. Compensation is benchmarked against market data and may vary based on experience, education, certifications, location, and other factors.
