Expanded Duty Dental Assistant (Multiple Vacancies)

Overview
Rutgers (The State University of New Jersey) is seeking Expanded Duty Dental Assistants within the Rutgers School of Dental Medicine, Oral Surgery Department. These assistants will assist dentists and residents with dental procedures and patient treatment, including general anesthesia, cosmetic surgical procedures, and implant dentistry. Assistants will also perform front‑desk duties and data entry. Responsibilities
Identify and obtain equipment, instruments, and supplies needed for oral maxillofacial surgical procedures. Prepare and set up work area and operatory for the scheduled procedure, including turnovers, cleaning, restocking, inventory, and ordering of supplies and instruments. Escort patients from waiting area to operatory and prepare patient for procedure (draping, positioning, witnessing patient consent, and organizing instrumentation). Check and record vital signs on charts prior to procedure. Prepare implants for insertion and assist resident/student cases. Protect airways during anesthesia by suctioning and positioning the head and chin. Qualifications
Minimum Education and Experience
Graduation from an accredited Dental Assisting program. Certification as a Dental Assistant (CDA) or Registered Dental Assistant (RDA) through the Dental Assisting National Board. Valid Dental Radiographic Technology License issued by the State of New Jersey. Certifications/Licenses
CDA or RDA certification through the Dental Assisting National Board. Valid Dental Radiographic Technology License (NJ). Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Computer literacy. Preferred Qualifications
Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery Anesthesia Assistant certification preferred. Experience with additional software products utilized by the department is preferred. Benefits

Standing 2/3 of the time, walking 2/3 of the time, sitting 1/3 of the time. Use of hands to finger, handle, or feel over 2/3 of the time; reach with hands and arms 1/3 of the time. Stooping, kneeling, crouching, or crawling 1/3 of the time; talk or hear over 2/3 of the time. Lift patients, heavy boxes up to 40 pounds, instrument sets up to 20 pounds; lift surgical supplies above the head. Clinic and office operations, moderate noise.
