Job Description American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Pediatric ICU position caring for both general pediatric and critical care patients on night shifts, requiring a SD or compact RN license.
Responsibilities
Work in a combined Pediatric and Pediatric ICU unit with 15 general beds and 5 PICU beds
Care for patients aged 0-18 years, including some adult overflow with stable conditions
Patient ratios are 1:5 for general pediatrics and 1:1-2 for advanced care pediatrics
Common cases include respiratory illnesses, trauma, sepsis, diabetes, surgical recovery, and acute/chronic multi-system issues
Must float as needed to NICU (feeder/growers, 1:3 ratio)
12-hour night shifts with every other weekend rotation
May be scheduled for on-call/low census shifts
Use EPIC for charting and Omnicell for medication management
Responsibilities include medication administration, patient/family education, assessing/reassessing patients, and providing advanced critical care
Support staff include CNAs (1:5), charge nurse, nurse educator, case management, RT, hospitalist, pediatric APP, pharmacy, and social work
RNs are responsible for drawing labs and starting IVs, with ultrasound available for difficult access
Two days of unit orientation with a preceptor and one day of facility orientation are provided
Navy scrubs are required
All major holidays may require coverage
No local travelers accepted; must live more than 100 miles away
Requirements
Active RN license in South Dakota or compact state
Completion of a nursing program approved by a board of nursing
Minimum 1.5 years general nursing experience required
First-time travelers considered only with at least 2 years of experience
Current BLS, PALS, and NIHSS certifications required
Ability to perform physical assessments on patients from infants to adults
Proficiency with EPIC EMR is required
PICU experience including drip titration and managing mechanically ventilated patients
