Role Summary The Registered Nurse provides direct patient care guided by the American Nurses Association scope of practice. The RN collaborates with patients, family, peers, physicians, and interdisciplinary teams, assessing needs, implementing and evaluating care plans in alignment with hospital philosophy, policies, and standards.
Responsibilities
Complete patient assessment and reassessment as clinically indicated.
Document patient information, including plan of care, interventions, and outcomes reflecting physical, mental, and emotional status.
Ensure appropriate documentation at each level of care and for transfers/discharges per policy.
Follow the five Rights of Medication Administration, assess before administration, re-evaluate and document responses.
Coordinate and supervise nursing care, delegating tasks and maintaining accountability.
Promote a culture of safety by assessing risks, adhering to policies, initiating interventions, conducting bedside shift reports and rounds, and ensuring proper hand‑offs.
Assess learning needs of patients/families, provide instruction, and document responses.
Deliver patient‑centered care, respecting cultural diversity and maintaining open communication.
Meet accreditation, regulatory, and compliance responsibilities.
Promote a culture of learning and growth through mentorship and continual professional development.
Perform additional duties as assigned within the state nursing scope of practice.
Education & Credentials
Associate degree in Nursing (Associate’s LVL DGRE) or equivalent.
Current and unobstructed New York State Registered Nurse license and Connecticut Registered Nurse License (or pending for CT).
Required certifications: BLS; optional: ACLS, PALS, NRP, EFM, TNCC, ENPC, TCAR, CPI, S.T.A.B.L.E.
Training requirements: BLS required on hire; ACLS and unit‑specific certifications as indicated.
Working Conditions
Manual: significant manual skills, motor coordination, and finger dexterity.
Occupational: some risk.
Physical Effort: Medium to heavy; may lift up to 35 lbs.
Environment: exposure to dirt, odors, noise, human waste.
Credentials Required: RN, BLS.
