Position Overview About the Unit: The Medical‑Oncology Unit at Corewell Health South is a 36‑bed unit specializing in the care of adult patients with medical, cardiovascular, surgical, oncological, hospice, and palliative needs. This diverse patient population offers team members a rich and rewarding environment for continuous learning and professional growth.
Our unit provides comprehensive care throughout patient admission—from initial diagnosis through treatment, recovery, or palliation. We are deeply committed to a team‑based approach, delivering high‑quality nursing care and essential educational and emotional support to patients and their families.
About Corewell Health South – Lakeland Hospitals: Corewell Health South is a leading healthcare provider in Southwest Michigan, comprising three hospital systems dedicated to delivering comprehensive, patient‑centered care. Our network includes an outpatient surgical center, rehabilitation facilities, long‑term care centers, home‑care and hospice services, and physician practice locations.
In collaboration with the Marie Yeager Cancer Center, our Oncology Certified RNs provide advanced, compassionate care to patients receiving inpatient chemotherapy. Corewell Health South supports professional growth with ongoing education and certification opportunities.
Scope of Work The Registered Nurse (RN) practices within the American Nurses Association (ANA) scope of practice, utilizing the nursing process to deliver high‑quality, patient‑ and family‑centered care. Through comprehensive assessment, planning, implementation, evaluation, and discharge coordination, the RN ensures care is tailored to meet individual patient needs and goals.
By partnering with patients and families, the RN integrates input into the plan of care and develops personalized teaching strategies to support education, empowerment, and optimal health outcomes.
Qualifications
Associate's in Nursing.
Bachelor's in Nursing within 5 years of graduation.
Graduates from a non‑accredited nursing school must have at least one year of acute‑care experience or two years in a licensed health‑care role, and must have successfully passed the NCLEX licensure examination.
Michigan Registered Nurse (RN) license.
AHA or ARC Basic Life Support (BLS) certification within 90 days.
Preferred Qualifications
ONCC Oncology Nursing Certification in Chemotherapy Biotherapy: radiation oncology, infusion clinic, or medical oncology within 2 years.
ONS certification in Chemotherapy Biotherapy: radiation oncology, infusion clinic, or medical oncology within 2 years.
