Co-Responder Therapist (Full-Time) Position Summary Co-Responder Therapist works in collaboration with a law enforcement officer or emergency medical technician to respond to community members whose need for urgent intervention was reported through the Emergency Communication Center (911). The team specializes in de-escalation, problem‑solving, risk assessment, and community resource linkage. The behavioral health provider acts as a first responder to behavioral health crises—including mental illness, substance use, and social determinants of health—providing crisis intervention, support, risk evaluation, triage, brief counseling, referral, and prompt documentation.

Qualifications • Bachelor’s degree (Master’s preferred) in a recognized mental health profession.

• Licensed or license eligible in Colorado as LPC, LMFT, LCSW, LAC, CAC III, or PhD.

• Experience in an emergency service setting or demonstrated competency; crisis intervention experience preferred.

• Current Colorado driver’s license and ability to be commercially insured with Axis Health System commercial insurance agency.

• Must complete training with law enforcement agency including basic tactical intervention, scene safety, basic firearm safety, defensive driving, use of CAD and radio systems.

Salary Co-Responder Therapist – Unlicensed: $23.00 base rate (non‑exempt hourly) Co-Responder Therapist – Licensed: $30.00 base rate (non‑exempt hourly)

Physical Demands The employee will spend most of the workday in a vehicle issued by the first responder partner. The employee must be able to sit for longer periods, tolerate the movement of driving, and occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. The employee may occasionally be required to exert moderate levels of physical energy when response conditions require self‑defense, ambulation assistance, or physical safety intervention. The employee may be exposed to stressful situations involving enraged, distraught, and/or intoxicated individuals with possible mental health issues. Required Skills Knowledge of HIPAA compliance and patient health information. Organized, self‑directed, and able to follow organizational confidentiality and security rules. Working knowledge of crisis intervention approaches and application to clients with emotional, behavioral, and substance abuse problems. Brief Solution Focused Therapy, Motivational Interviewing, and DBT coaching skills. Ability to perform mental status evaluations, differential diagnosis, and service coordination duties. Ability to assess level of risk and treatment approaches, make appropriate clinical judgment for resolution of client emergencies to a safe outcome. Ability to deliver services in various community locations. Knowledge of involuntary mental health holds, alcohol and drug emergency commitments, and involuntary commitments. Knowledge of HIPAA, 42 CFR Part 2, community health and behavioral health resources and eligibility criteria. Working knowledge of Windows‑based computer applications and standard office equipment.

Additional Eligibility Requirements Annual flu immunization, annual TB screening, CPI training within 90 days of hire, BLS PRO certification required upon hire.
